Full description

Sunset is a daily event in Key West, and on land you share it with hundreds of people packed along the waterfront. This cruise takes you out onto the water instead, so you get an open horizon and a cold drink in hand.

You'll board a modern 65-foot catamaran built for comfort. It has three levels, which is the boat's biggest advantage. The shaded lower lounge suits anyone who wants to escape the late-day heat. The upper deck gives the best elevated angle for photos. The sundeck at the front has bench seating and doubles as the dance floor once the band warms up. Even on a full sailing of up to 125 guests, there's room to move around and find your spot. Many evenings carry fewer people, depending on the season.

As the boat leaves the harbor, a live trio of local musicians starts playing. They mix island classics with crowd-pleasing covers, and the mood moves easily from laid-back to sing-along. The bar stays open the whole time. You can choose frozen-style margaritas, two draft lagers, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon or champagne. Sodas, lemonade and water are always available for kids and non-drinkers.

The appetizer table is meant for light grazing rather than a full meal. It usually includes:

Pinwheel wraps (ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, or veggie)

The selection changes with the season.

As the sun drops, the sky over the turquoise water turns orange, then pink and purple. The crew times the route so you're well placed for the moment the sun touches the horizon. After the last light fades, the boat heads back to the dock, and you'll arrive in Old Town as the dinner crowd is just getting started.

Important information

  • There's no dedicated parking. Most spots in Old Town are paid street parking, pay lots or garages, and they fill up fast close to sunset. Plan for extra time, or walk, bike or take a taxi if you're staying nearby.
  • Bring a valid government-issued photo ID. It's required for every guest 18 and over, and for anyone who wants alcohol. The drinking age is 21, with no exceptions.
  • Waivers are required. Every guest signs a liability waiver before boarding. Guests 17 and under need an adult (18+) with valid ID at check-in to sign for them. Guests 14 and under must have that adult with them on the cruise. Everyone needs a paid ticket, including children.
  • Dietary restrictions can't be accommodated. The kitchen doesn't make substitutions for allergies or special diets. If that affects you, eat beforehand or bring your own packed food.
  • The menu may change. The appetizers listed are typical, but the chef's selection varies by season.
  • The boat isn't wheelchair accessible. Moving between the decks involves steps.
  • Departure times follow the sun. Sunset in Key West shifts by more than an hour across the year, so check the exact time on your ticket.
  • Pack a light layer. Evenings on the water feel cooler and breezier than in town, especially from December to March.
  • Choose your spot early for photos. The upper deck gives the clearest, highest view, and the bow has the best angle as the sun meets the water. Claim a spot about 15 minutes before sunset.
  • Prone to seasickness? The catamaran is stable, but sitting low near the center of the boat helps. You can also take motion-sickness medication before boarding.

What's allowed

  • Cameras and phones (bring a fully charged battery for the sunset)
  • Your own pre-packed meal or snack if you have allergies or dietary needs, carried in a bag rather than a cooler
  • Children, with the right adult supervision and paperwork (see Important Information)
  • Dancing, singing along and celebrating special occasions

Not allowed

  • Pets
  • Drones
  • Coolers
  • Baby strollers
  • Mobility scooters
